On the 20th of October 2022, researchers from the Institute for Systems and Software Engineering (ISSE) of TU Clausthal, along with their colleagues from Institut für Fahrzeugtechnik (IfF) and Institut für Konstruktionstechnik (IK) of TU Braunschweig, in collaboration with New Mobility Solutions Hamburg GmbH, demonstrated an autonomous logistic concept addressing last-mile delivery problems in the project LogiSmile (Link: https://www.eiturbanmobility.eu/projects/logismile/). The demonstration featured the electrical prototype car PLUTO, designed and manufactured by researchers of IfF and IK and integrated with safety architecture based on ISSE's Connected Dependability Cage for on-board and off-board safety monitoring. The vehicle demonstrated relevant use cases for logistics, such as package handling – package handover and package return – and handling unexpected situations in the vehicle’s operational environment, e.g., avoiding obstacles in the vehicle's driving path.
Three research institutes involved in this demonstration, ISSE, IfF, and IK, are part of the Lower Saxony Automotive Research Centre (in German: NFF - Niedersächsisches Forschungszentrum Fahrzeugtechnik), which is a dominant project partner in the LogiSmile consortium. The LogiSmile project is led by CARNET and financed by EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
