ID.TUC.Buzz goes autonomous – and our vehicle platform is ready. 🚐🤖

An important milestone for our project: our ID.TUC.Buzz has been prepared for autonomous driving – and the delivery of our new vehicle platform is just around the corner.

But before we start integrating AI, end-to-end learning, and safety mechanisms, we first had a very special appointment: safety training at the Lausitzring in Klettwitz.

On a real race track – including the banked curve – we had the opportunity to train with automated vehicle platforms and experience how to react when a vehicle does something unexpected.

And this is exactly the point: If we want to develop an AI-autonomous shuttle, we must not only understand the technology, but also take the safety challenges in a real vehicle context seriously.

What happens in unexpected situations?
How does automated driving feel in dynamic scenarios?
How should takeover procedures, safety mechanisms, and fail-operational concepts be designed?

From an engineering perspective, the training was extremely valuable – and personally, it was also very exciting to be back on a large race track and drive through a banked curve.

But what makes me especially proud is the picture on the bottom right: our ID.TUC.Buzz as our new vehicle platform – prepared for the next step.

It will probably not fly 😉
but hopefully it will soon take its first autonomous steps.

We now have the basis to integrate our sensor box and our AI-based driving system, access the driving functions, and build the corresponding safety mechanisms.

And one more thing: we are still looking for a name for our research vehicle.
So: any ideas? Creative, technical, funny, bold – suggestions are very welcome. 😊
